Bismillah Walhamdulillah Wassalatu Wassalamu ‘ala Rasoolullah


السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ


سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ ، سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ الْعَظِيمِ

For those who aren’t 100% familiar with arabic, we have compiled a Glossary of Terms for ease of reference which relate to our ”Islamic Wills / Sharia Wills” page.

 

Asalam alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ – This is the formal greeting to a Muslim and means “may the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah swt be upon you“.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Wassalatu Wassalamu ala Rasulillah – In the name of Allah swt and blessings on Rasoolullah saw.

Subhan Allah wa Bihamdihi, Subhan Allahil ‘Azeem
سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ وَ بِحَمْدِهِ ، سُبْحَانَ اللّهِ الْعَظِيمِ – Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah, the Greatest is free from imperfection. ”Whoever says “SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi” a hundred times during the day, his sins are wiped away, even if they are like the foam of the sea”. (Sahih al-Bukhari; #7:168, Sahih Muslim; #4:2071).

Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem – In the name of God, most beneficent, most merciful. This is always written and said before making a beginning.

Subhanahu wa Ta’ala (SWT) – Glorified and Exalted be He.

Sallalahu Alayhi wa Salam (SAW) صلى الله عليه وسلم – Peace and blessings be upon him (always used when referring to Rasoolullah saw as a mark of respect).

Rasoolullah saw – Hazrat Mohammad saw – Last Messenger/Prophet of God, Allah swt.

Hazrat – Prophet (the same as Nabi).

Al Wasiyyah – An Islamic Will

Al Musi – Testator/Testatee (the one making the will).

Al Musa Lahu – Beneficiary.

Qur’an Sharif – Glorious Qur’an (revealed by Allah swt to the last messenger, Rasoolullah ssw after the Torah was revealed to Hazrat (Prophet) Musa (Moses) Alayhi Salam and after the Bible (Injeel) was conveyed onto Hazrat Isa AS (Jesus) by the Angel Jibrael AS (Angel Gabriel).

Alayhi Salam (AS) عليه سلم – May Allah swt bless him (used for all prophets and angels as a mark of respect).

Dying Intestate – Dying without having made a valid will.

Barak Allahu Feekum – May Allah swt bless you.

Ma’asalaam – May safety accompany you.

In Sha Allah – “God Willing”. Often shortened in writing to “isA” and used when planning to do something in future which is carried out by the will and permission of Allah swt.

RadiAllahu anhu – “May Allah swt be pleased with him”. All of the Sahaba (companions of Rasoolullah saw) have their names followed with this when they are spoken about as a mark of respect. RadiAllahu “Anha” is the feminine.
